Village Hall Birch Tree

You will probably have noticed that the large birch tree has been cut down and that some hefty chunks have been cut out of it.

We circulated information about why it had to be felled before it was cut down. The reason behind the subsequent cuts was to assess the extent of the internal rot and to see if it was viable to have the remaining stump sculpted. The wood carver we approached, who carved the trees at Long Whatton and Breedon, decided that it is viable so we now have to decide on the design.

So, we are asking, here, via The Dialogue and the village Facebook, for ideas. It is worth bearing in mind that our scope will be limited by the height and the breadth of the tree so large-scale designs that need substantial width at the top will not be possible.

However, we would very much appreciate your suggestions which can be placed in the Village Hall post-box (located to the left of the main door).

Variation to Premises Licence

Due to the success of our Village Hall as an entertanment venue, and to provide the required service, we need to amend the current Premises Licence to include the sale of alcohol. We currently apply for Temporary Event Notices when required but there is a limit to how many of these we are allowed and this year we are forecast to exceed the allowable limit. In view of this the required application has been submitted and we await a decision from North West Leicestershire District Council. As part of the application process we are required to display the above Blue Notice (in the VH Noticeboard and Dialogue). Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Revised Hire Charges

At a recent Village Hall committee meeting, it was decided that we have to increase our hire charges as of the 1st of April. This is because of the recent rise in energy prices which has made the Hall more expensive to heat.

While we were rather reluctant to do this on one level, it was pointed out that we have not altered what we charge for hire for more than 12 years!

So, as from April 1st, the new charges will be:

£10 per hour for regular users and Diseworth residents,

£12 per hour for those living outside the village.

The new Hire Agreement Form, including revised charging rates, is available via the ‘Booking’ and ‘Documants’ pages.

We hope you understand the reasons behind this and will continue to use the Hall; your inputs are much valued.

COVID and the Village Hall

In light of the current publicity regarding measures to reduce the risk of a COVID outbreak the Village Hall Management Committee wish to restate its policy of ‘personal responsibility’ – we should all think carefully about minimising the risk to ourselves, and more importantly, to others. Wearing a face mask is not mandatory but may be a good idea if you have concerns for your safety.
